Recognized Protection & Indemnity (P&I) Clubs
To uphold international maritime standards and ensure comprehensive liability coverage for vessels flying the Benin flag, the Benin Maritime Administration officially recognizes a select group of Protection & Indemnity (P&I) Clubs. These organizations provide essential insurance services covering third-party liabilities, including personal injury, environmental damage, cargo loss, and wreck removal.
The list of recognized P&I Clubs encompasses both members of the International Group of P&I Clubs and other reputable insurers that meet the stringent criteria set by the Administration. Shipowners and operators are encouraged to engage with these approved entities to guarantee compliance with international conventions and to ensure the safety and security of their maritime operations.
The list includes:
P&I Clubs that are members of the International Group (IG), widely acknowledged for their strong financial security, reinsurance arrangements, and global claims handling.
Non-IG P&I Providers, will be recognized by the Benin Administration after meeting the necessary standards for reliability, financial stability, and regulatory compliance.
Shipowners and managers are encouraged to choose from these approved entities to ensure that their vessels meet the flag state’s insurance requirements and maintain full international coverage.
International Group of P&I Clube (IG):
Non International Group of P&I Clube (NON IG):
The Benin Maritime Administration may also recognize Protection & Indemnity (P&I) Clubs that are not members of the International Group (IG). Such non-IG P&I providers may be approved on a case-by-case basis, following a detailed assessment of their financial strength, claims handling performance, and adherence to international regulatory standards. The list of recognized P&I providers is regularly reviewed and updated on the official website to reflect any newly approved entities.
